‘A voice for San Marino’, farewell to Ludovico Di Meo RTV director, former Rai 2 director

The death of Director General Ludovico Di Meo left San Marino speechless.

SAN MARINO, 29 JAN - San Marino Rtv mourns the passing of its General Director. Ludovico Di Meo died prematurely this morning in Rome. He was 63 years old. In recent days he had undergone surgery. Released from hospital yesterday and returned home, the Director this morning again accused of an illness, probably due to complications from the surgery. In vain were the rescues.

Ludovico Di Meo leaves his wife Paola and two daughters Federica and Flaminia. A bereavement that leaves the management and the entire staff of the state broadcaster dismayed and incredulous. The entire company rallies round the family and shares their grief.

By Meo had started collaborating with Rai Uno in 1985, first with Italy Evening, then with Unomattina. After a brief experience in Telemontecarlo, back to Tg1 where he became a presenter in 1995, announcing the attack on the Twin Towers on 11 September 2001. Seven years later comes at Tg2 and became deputy director in 2008. From 2009 to 2019 he was deputy editor of Rai One. In January 2020, he was appointed Director of Film and TV Series and was entrusted with interim responsibility for the management of Rai Due. A September 2021 was indicated by the BoD of the Rai such as new dg from San Marino Rtv, position, which he held until December 2021.

The company lost him like that, only a year after his arrival. He had many projects; he was working on them methodically and seriously; he wanted to put his long experience in Rai to elevate the product and give it a clearer and more decisive national imprint. He has been linked to this land and its institutions, he has been able to establish fruitful relations with politics and civil society; he has been an able intermediary with Rome, and at the same time he has wanted us to be more open to the world with information windows from Washington And Brussels. We remember him for his good-natured smile, his large hands and powerful grip; his always ready wit, his ability to play down in any situation. We thank him for the trust he placed in us.

“The news of the disappearance of Ludovico Di Meo left me shocked”, declares the Secretary at Tourism Federico Pedini Amati. “I had the pleasure of knowing him as a man before being a great journalist and Director of the San Marino RTV. At this complicated time, I do not wish to lapse into rhetoric, but I feel it is my duty to remember him as a man capable in his role and as a humane and helpful person. I join the condolences expressed by the institutions to his family and to the San Marino RTV. There are no right words in the face of such a tragedy.
